In designing this three bay garage the center bay was to be oversized enough to allow larger vehicles in with flanking standard size garage areas. Extra depth was provided in this floor plan for excellent workshop or storage areas. Another design objective was to create a very large garage and maintain a relatively low, residential scale building which minimizes blocking of light and sky. The structural scheme is quite unique in that it efficiently satisfies the IRC code prescriptive wall bracing requirements with inter braced wall lines. This divides the garage plan into three roof spans which can be framed with relatively small rafters and tension tie/ceiling joists. Cost to build this garage plan is comparatively low because there are no large trusses – just conventional light framed roof and walls. Another original design available only at Behm Design.
